New Energy
With the move towards clean energy in New Zealand being driven from Taranaki, JGP are providing strategic guidance to clients through ongoing research of international studies and projects. Applying this, we have been involved in assessing and trialling national pipeline networks to help determine their role for energy transmission and distribution in an emerging hydrogen economy.![]()
New Station Build
Project management at First Gas Ltd through design and build for the constuction of a new delivery point to supply gas to the Junction Road Power Plant:- DN300 hot-tapped connection to the 400 line.
- Inlet shutdown valve (actuated, fire safe) with full flow bypass.
- Filter/Separator for removal of TEG/liquid with full flow bypass.
- Above-ground condensate sump.
- Series/prove metering system.
- Single-stream C6 Gas Chromatograph (GC).

Station Rebuild
First Gas Ltd identified the requirement to upgrade the earthing and bonding of their stations in order to comply with current standards and regulations. Over 60 sites across the North Island have been compiled into a two year campaign.At present, commissioning has been completed at 25 of the sites, with JGP supplying project management of the whole campaign.A total of 45 sites are scheduled for completion by the end of 2020.![]()

Junction Road Power Plant
JGP worked from September 2019 through to April 2020 with Todd Generation's Project Team and Aurecon (engineering consultants) to deliver a world class GE Gas Fired Power Plant.The plant was built to deliver 100 MW to the New Zealand grid upon demand, while meeting the requirement of complying with all grid specifications and local government consents.Plant consisting of two GE LM6000 Sprint gas turbines, Suez twin train RO plants, operation buildings, roads, and a high voltage switchyard.![]()
New Degasser Install
Developments at the Mangahewa G site were expected to significantly increase the produced water volumes, beyond the capability of the current degasser.The project team was responsible for FEED, detailed design, fabrication, installation, and commissioning of an additional degasser, in advance of the proposed site developments. The project was delivered on budget and two months prior to the completion of the site developments, this project was completed in October 2019. The second degasser was able to de-bottleneck the system and provide increased 3-phase separation capacity.![]()
Motunui Campaign Maintenance
As part of an extensive campaign of maintenance of its Taranaki offsite assets, Methanex put together a turnkey package to completely refurbish Faull Road Mixing Station and Motunui Delivery Point.The scope involved restoration, preventative and corrective remedial maintenance activities including painting for corrosion control, repair or replacement of end of life equipment to all Methanex owned plant contained within the compounds.As Project Manager, John successfully delivered both Projects on time and on budget with no LTI’s or MTI’s.![]()
Omata 02 Tank Farm Refurbishment
As Project Manager, John was responsible for the complete delivery of this Project.
The Project included inspection, refurbishment and repair of a 45m litre tank, secondary containment, inlet and export facilities, a 3km pipeline and tie-in to existing ship loading infrastructure.

MOT 01 Restart Project
As Mechanical Works Supervisor, John was responsible for the delivery of all mechanical works associated with the restart of the Mot 1 Methanol Production Plant (part of the overall Motunui Methanol Production Facility). This Plant had been idle for 8 years.
The Project involved the complete inspection, overhaul and repairs of pressure vessels and exchangers, piping systems and supports, rotating equipment, lube skids, valves and trim heater. It also involved the replacement of both Converter and De-Sulfurization Catalysts.![]()
MOT 01 Turnaround 2017
JGP were engaged as client representatives for the MOT 01 Turnaround completed in June 2017. JGP had specific responsibility for the delivery of the Reformer work including associated vessels, exchangers, boilers, and piping. All Reformer works were completed successfully on time and within budget with no lost time injuries.
As part of the engagement, JGP also had oversight of two major projects namely replacement of the natural gas Trim Heater and the Air Preheaters.![]()
MOT 02 Turnaround
As Project Manager, John had overall responsibility for the safe, on time and cost effective delivery of the Turnaround of the Mot 2 Methanol Production Plant (part of the overall Motunui Methanol Production Facility) while maintaining the highest levels of quality.
This was the first Turnaround on the Mot 2 Methanol Production Plant since its restart in 2008.![]()
Ballance Agri-Nutrients - Tauranga
JGP provided efficient planning and execution of all routine and non-routine maintenance work, including SIMOPs projects, under construction during the turnaround period of July 2018 to September 2018.A successful initial plant start-up was achieved at the end of execution with all compliance requirements being met. All capital and maintenance projects delivered safely, on schedule and within approved budgets. Accountable for the health, safety, security, and environmental performance of the site with direct responsibility for all personnel who were executing work in the field.![]()
Ballance Kapuni Turnaround
As Turnaround Manager, John had overall responsibility for the Ballance Agri-Nutrients Turnaround at their Kapuni Ammonia/Urea Production Facility. During the Turnaround over 1,700 work orders were competed with 127,000 man hours worked.
The Project was successfully completed in April 2016 and the Plant is now achieving record levels of production.
